Bearing explores weight, support, and the tension created when forms hold and press against one another. The composition is built from interlocking shapes that overlap, bend, and fold across the surface, creating a structure in which no element exists entirely on its own. Deep reds, burgundy, earthy browns, muted neutrals, and pale passages create a dense but restrained visual field.
The painting developed through gradual layering and repeated adjustment. Broad forms meet narrower passages, curved shapes interrupt more structured areas, and visible strokes remain across the surface. Rather than relying on sharp contrasts, the work builds its presence through accumulation. Areas of lighter colour create brief openings within the composition, but remain embedded within the surrounding forms.
There is a physical quality to the way the elements relate to one another. Some appear to carry weight, others to press against or support what surrounds them. The composition therefore holds a continuous tension between stability and pressure. Nothing fully collapses, but nothing is entirely free either.
Bearing is ultimately concerned with what it means to carry and to be held at the same time. The forms remain connected through their points of contact, creating a quiet sense of resistance and dependence. The resulting tension is not dramatic or explosive, but sustained — a feeling of weight that remains present throughout the painting.
A large-scale contemporary abstract painting for collectors and considered interior spaces, Bearing combines earthy red and brown tones with layered forms, spatial depth, and a tactile surface to create a distinctive piece of modern wall art.
